Much of the work at the museum is done by volunteers, and there is work to be done that matches a range of interests and inclinations. Docents open the museum to the public, welcoming visitors and answering questions. Behind the scenes, our collections volunteers catalogue and preserve the artifacts, photos, books, and papers that make up our archives. For those who prefer physical work, our facilities volunteers keep the buildings and grounds in good shape with periodic workdays. Others provide support by planning events, working with schoolchildren, developing our special exhibits, and fundraising.
The time commitment can be small or big,
depending on your needs and choice.
Last year, museum volunteers contributed more than 5,000 hours of their time. They had the pleasure of working with like-minded Vashon neighbors to support the work of the museum—and along the way, they had a lot of fun.
If you are interested in becoming a museum volunteer or learning more about the various opportunities, contact us. We’ll arrange to meet you and have a conversation about where you might best fit in, according to your interests and our needs.
